Paslay Group Executive Program Management Team Helped Deliver Project in 2021

PARIS, France, January 2022 – UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has honored Los Angeles International Airport with its prestigious 2022 Prix Versailles World Architecture and Design Award for LAX’s West Gates program at Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The award honors “sustainable development that considers every aspect of the human environment,” UNESCO said in a news release. Helsinki Airport, Terminal 2 in Finland was and Thessaloniki Airport “Makedonia,” Terminal 2 in Greece were also honored with special prizes.

Paslay Group served as Executive Program Manager supporting Los Angeles World Airports during the West Gates construction period, from 2015 to 2021. As EPM, PG served as an extension of the LAWA executive team and managed the $1.68 billion program, which included a 15-gate concourse, airfield improvements, passenger and utility tunnels, and related tenant fit-out.

PG Partner Mark Skjervem, Principal David Arredondo, and Associate Principal Mick Waterhouse provided leadership for the program, including design, construction, concessions development, and support for overall logistics.

“The West Gates Terminal program was a pivotal engagement for Paslay Group,” said R. Clay Paslay, CEO and managing partner of the firm he founded in 2006. “We refined and proved that the Executive Program Management model that we created and introduced to the airport industry would allow LAWA to expand its capacity to plan, implement and execute a complex capital program in an efficient manner while balancing existing airport operations with new construction.”

Prix Versailles nominees are identified in the categories of airports, university campuses, passenger stations, sports, shops and stores, shopping malls, and restaurants. The competition is judged by world jury composed of architects, designers, artists and globally engaged citizens.

A UNESCO news release said: “This year’s choice of laureates – which pays tribute to innovation, creativity, reflections of local heritage, ecological efficiency and the values of social interaction and participation which the United Nations holds in high regard – is in line with the principles of intelligent sustainability, taking the projects’ ecological, social and cultural impacts into consideration.”
